Icons stores almost nothing. This page is the whole policy.
Cookies
Icons itself sets no cookies. There is no analytics cookie, no advertising cookie, and no consent banner. The one exception is optional: if you click Subscribe, Substack's sign-up form loads, and Substack may set its own cookies (see Newsletter).
Local storage
The only thing stored on your device is a flag in localStorage when you dismiss the language banner. The key is ic-lang-dismiss. It remembers that you closed the banner. It is not sent to a server. Nothing else is written to localStorage.
Vercel Web Analytics
Vercel Web Analytics is cookieless and aggregated. It collects no personal data and does not track you across sites. A visitor is counted with a hash of the request that rotates every day and is discarded after 24 hours, as described in Vercel’s documentation. You cannot be followed from one day to the next, or from this site to another.
Matomo (self-hosted)
Matomo is open-source analytics that we run on our own server in the EU, with cookies disabled. IP addresses are shortened (two bytes masked) before storage, nothing is shared with anyone, and you are not tracked across sites. We use it to count visits, pages, referrers, countries, device types, reading time and a few clicks (PDF downloads, subscribe, quiz). It is not an advertising tag.
Vercel Speed Insights
Vercel Speed Insights records anonymous performance metrics, such as how fast a page loads. It does not identify you.
Vercel Web Analytics and Microsoft Clarity are the only third-party scripts on this site. Vercel is cookieless and aggregated. Microsoft Clarity records anonymised session replays and heatmaps (it may set a first-party cookie); IP addresses are not used to identify you and no data is sold. Everything else — fonts, images, the quote verifier — is self-hosted.
Newsletter
This site stores no newsletter addresses. The sign-up forms on these pages are Substack's official embed. It is not loaded until you click Subscribe; then it loads from iconsdaily.substack.com, a third party, which receives your IP address and browser details, may set its own cookies, and handles your email under Substack's privacy policy. You can also subscribe directly on Substack.
Third parties
Icons loads no third-party embeds and no third-party fonts. It does load two third-party analytics scripts: Vercel Web Analytics (cookieless, aggregated) and Microsoft Clarity (session replays and heatmaps). No advertising tags, ever. Typefaces and images are self-hosted.

The site is hosted on Vercel.
Contact
There is no contact address on this site yet. Corrections and tips can go through the Substack newsletter for now. Icons does not collect messages on this site.
